DraftKings is supporting a push for sports betting in the state of Missouri, contributing $3.5 million to the Winning for Missouri Education campaign fund ahead of a critical voting season this fall, according to a filing in Missouri Ethics Commission, via Legal Sports Report.
DraftKings and FanDuel, some of the biggest names in the sports betting industry, have contributed more than $10 million to the ballot, with DraftKings’ latest contributions comes shortly after the Missouri Secretary of State’s office certifying a Missouri sports betting ballot initiative for this November.
“Over the next eleven weeks, our campaign is committed to communicating with every Missourian to ensure they understand the critical importance of legalizing sports betting to help fund Missouri classrooms,” spokesperson Jack Cardetti said in an official statement.
“With teacher pay in Missouri among the lowest in the nation, it’s clear that our schools need this new, permanent, dedicated source of funding. By voting ‘yes’ on Amendment 2 on November 5, voters will be providing tens of millions in new revenue each year to Missouri’s public schools.”
A Remington Research Group study found that 26% of Missourians were in favor of sports betting in the state, in a study conducted last year.
Emerson College and Nexstar Media’s more recent poll found that 38.3% of voters said yes to the push for sports betting in the state, with more than 25% still undecided
